“Cracked” is a typeface crafted from the investigation of language in the context of ciphers and hidden messages, intended to be revealed and concealed for different secretive uses. Each letter was made using a grid based on the pig-pen cipher, creating the building blocks that are taken away one by one over 6 different weights. These ‘weights’ are called Complete, Decipherable, Partial, Secretive, Barely and Uncrackable?, legibility dictated by name.
All details of creation, distinction and use are included in a type specimen which includes two of its own secret messages. Presented in a confidential envelope along with 4 posters (two separate designs, both in two colour choices), small enough to fit through a letter box and includes enough posters to share with a friend.
The first poster is origami style and was created in order to show off the type, but also reinforce the investigative and mysterious nature of the project by only revealing part of the design when folded correctly. The second is a larger and plainer design, one that will look good on your wall, but also act as a reminder of the typeface components and perhaps help with deciphering.
